Over the next ten years, West Sacramento is projected to become a commuter city for the impacted Bay Area.
Personally, I prefer not to drive more than 30 minutes to work, and there is a very large job market within that 30 minute envelope.
Many of the brilliant minds who find their dream job in Silicone Valley may be discouraged by the not-so-dream price tag of living in the Mecca of Tech.
For those who are willing to trade a long commute for an affordable house, West Sac is a good option.
Today, I timed the commute to a handful of job-heavy cities to give you an idea of what you’d be looking at as a commuter.
-Cheers!
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
City Average Commute Time
Downtown Sacramento 14 minutes
Davis 22 minutes
Elk Grove 27 minutes
San Francisco 1 hour 58 minutes*
San Jose 2hours 20 minutes
My starting point is the center of Linden Loop, which is a large residential neighborhood situated between two other large residential neighborhoods, in order to give you an average house-to-freeway distance within West Sac. Obviously, where you buy a house will affect the times given plus or minus about 6 minutes.
*commuting to San Francisco involves many options. Many commuters take the BART from Berkeley, thus avoiding traffic over the Bay Bridge and parking fees in the city.
